New Year – New Hope
A new year often feels like opening a fresh chapter. January brings a sense of renewal, a chance to pause, reflect, and look ahead with hope. Many people make resolutions, set goals, and promise themselves that this year will be better.
Yet as we enter 2026, optimism about the world can be hard to find. News headlines are filled with conflict, rising financial pressures, injustice, corruption, and environmental concerns. For many, the future feels uncertain and troubling rather than hopeful.
The Bible, however, presents a very different picture of the future—one filled with real and lasting hope. The Bible, tells us that the problems facing the world today will not continue forever. God promises a time of global peace, justice, healing, and restoration. Pain, suffering, and even death will all one day be things of the past.
This hope centres on Jesus Christ. At Christmas, we remember His birth as God’s Son over 2,000 years ago. The Bible teaches that this same Jesus, who was raised from the dead and made immortal, is now at God’s right hand in heaven. He is waiting for the moment when God will send him back to the earth to rule as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Jesus will govern with God’s full authority, bringing righteousness and justice to the world. This is the kingdom Jesus taught his followers to pray for:
“Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10).
The prophets of the Bible described what the future will look like. They spoke of a time when war will end, when nations will no longer learn to fight, and when weapons will be turned into tools for life and growth (Micah 4:3).
They also foretold a world where sickness and disability disappear, where the blind see, the deaf hear, and barren places burst into life (Isaiah 35:5–6).
The final book of the Bible offers a powerful promise: God will wipe away every tear, remove pain and sorrow, and make all things new (Revelation 21:4–5).
As a new year begins, the Open Bible Learning Group invites you to explore this message of hope with us. Through regular Bible reading and discussion, we seek to understand God’s promises—and how each of us can share in the hopeful future He has prepared.
A new year brings new hope. The Bible shows us why that hope is certain.
